  • 6MWT was performed in a 20-m hallway; aerobic capacity (VO2peak, Wpeak, VT) and muscle strength were also assessed.
  • Main Results:

    • Children with ESRD exhibited significantly reduced 6MWT performance (83% of predicted, p < 0.0001).
    • Hematocrit and height were the strongest predictors, explaining 59-60% of the variance in 6MWT performance.
    • 6MWT performance was not associated with VO2peak, muscle strength, or other anthropometric variables.

    Conclusions:

    • The 6MWT is a valuable tool for monitoring clinical status in pediatric ESRD patients.
    • Despite its utility, the 6MWT cannot replace comprehensive fitness assessments like VO2peak or muscle strength testing.
