Area of Science:

  • Cardiology
  • Cardiac Imaging
  • Pathology

Background:

  • False tendons are fibromuscular intracavitary bands within heart chambers.
  • These structures can be mistaken for pathological cardiac findings.
  • Rupture of a false tendon is an uncommon echocardiographic observation.

Observation:

  • A case of false tendon rupture is presented.
  • The echocardiographic appearance mimicked intraventricular chorda rupture.
  • This highlights a diagnostic challenge in cardiac imaging.

Findings:

  • The study identifies false tendon rupture as a mimic of intraventricular chorda rupture.
  • Echocardiography revealed a structure resembling chordal rupture.
  • Histopathological correlation may be necessary for definitive diagnosis.

Implications:

  • Accurate identification of false tendons is crucial to avoid misdiagnosis.
  • Understanding this mimicry improves echocardiographic interpretation.
  • This case contributes to the literature on rare cardiac findings.
