Summary

A novel rose-pigmented actinomycete, Nonomuraea rosea sp. nov. strain GW 12687(T), was identified. This bacterium exhibits distinct taxonomic and chemotaxonomic features, differentiating it from known Nonomuraea species.

Area of Science:

  • Microbiology
  • Bacteriology
  • Taxonomy

Background:

  • Actinomycetes are Gram-positive bacteria with significant ecological and industrial importance.
  • The genus Nonomuraea comprises several species known for their diverse metabolic capabilities and potential applications.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To taxonomically characterize a novel actinomycete isolate, strain GW 12687(T).
  • To determine its phylogenetic placement within the genus Nonomuraea and propose a new species name.

Main Methods:

  • 16S rRNA gene sequencing for phylogenetic analysis.
  • Chemotaxonomic analyses including menaquinone, polar lipid, and fatty acid profiling.
  • Physiological and biochemical testing for phenotypic differentiation.

Main Results:

  • Strain GW 12687(T) showed highest 16S rRNA gene similarity to Nonomuraea dietziae (97.6%).
  • Chemotaxonomic data (menaquinone MK-9(H(4)), polar lipids, fatty acids) supported genus Nonomuraea allocation.
  • Distinct physiological and biochemical profiles differentiated it from related species.

Conclusions:

  • Strain GW 12687(T) represents a novel species within the genus Nonomuraea.
  • The proposed name for this new species is Nonomuraea rosea sp. nov., with strain GW 12687(T) as the type strain.
