Observation:

  • A 31-year-old woman developed severe autoimmune hepatitis.
  • The onset of AIH was abrupt and temporally associated with vaccination.
  • The patient had received either hepatitis A or yellow fever vaccine.

Findings:

  • The case suggests an idiosyncratic immune response to vaccination.
  • Hepatitis A and yellow fever vaccines are implicated.
  • This represents a unique presentation of vaccine-associated AIH.

Implications:

  • Vaccination may precipitate AIH in susceptible individuals.
  • Further research is needed to elucidate the mechanisms of vaccine-induced AIH.
  • Clinicians should consider vaccination history in patients presenting with acute AIH.
