Multiple familial eccrine spiradenoma with cylindroma.

Background:

Eccrine tumors, including spiradenomas and cylindromas, are rare skin neoplasms.
Previous research suggested a common origin for these tumors from a pluripotential basal cell.

Observation:

This study observed a familial aggregation of multiple eccrine spiradenomata and multiple cylindromata spanning three generations.
The affected family members presented with distinct types of benign adnexal tumors.

Findings:

The co-occurrence of multiple eccrine spiradenomata and cylindromata within a family supports the hypothesis of a shared cellular origin.
The inheritance pattern observed in this family suggests that eccrine spiradenoma may be inherited in an autosomal dominant manner.

Implications:

This genetic linkage provides further evidence for the pluripotential basal cell origin theory for these adnexal tumors.
Identifying an autosomal dominant inheritance pattern has implications for genetic counseling and understanding the pathogenesis of eccrine tumors.
