Summary

Ameloblastic fibro-odontoma (AFO), a rare odontogenic tumor, was diagnosed in an 8-year-old boy. Surgical removal resulted in no recurrence after eight years of monitoring.

Background:

Ameloblastic fibro-odontoma (AFO) is an uncommon, benign odontogenic tumor characterized by slow growth.
AFO typically affects children and adolescents and is often asymptomatic.

Observation:

A case presentation of an 8-year-old Caucasian male with a mandibular AFO is detailed.
Clinical examination revealed a significant intraoral swelling.
Radiographic imaging demonstrated a well-defined radiolucent lesion with radiopaque components.

Findings:

Histopathological analysis confirmed the diagnosis of AFO, showing features of dental papilla-like connective tissue, epithelial components, and odontogenic hard tissues (denticles, enamel, dentin).
The lesion was surgically excised and curetted.
