Background:

Neck lymphadenopathy is a common clinical presentation with diverse etiologies.
Cat scratch disease (CSD) is an infectious illness caused by Bartonella henselae, often transmitted by felines.
Timely diagnosis of CSD is crucial for appropriate patient management.

Observation:

A case report of a 40-year-old male presenting with unilateral regional lymphadenopathy is described.
The patient underwent surgical intervention for the enlarged lymph nodes.
Histopathologic examination confirmed the diagnosis of cat scratch disease.

Findings:

Regional lymphadenopathy, particularly in individuals with a history of animal contact, should raise suspicion for CSD.
Histopathological confirmation is a key diagnostic tool for CSD.
The diagnosis of CSD is infrequently reported in Poland.

Implications:

Considering CSD in the differential diagnosis of lymphadenopathy can prevent unnecessary or overly aggressive treatments.
Increased awareness and knowledge dissemination regarding CSD are needed in regions where it is rarely diagnosed.
Prompt recognition of CSD can significantly improve patient outcomes through targeted, less invasive therapies.
