Summary

Local hypothermia during robot-assisted prostatectomy significantly improves urinary continence. Patients undergoing hypothermic procedures experienced a faster return to zero pad use compared to controls, especially older individuals.

Main Results:

  • Hypothermia was successfully achieved in most patients (112/115).
  • Three- and 12-month zero pad rates were higher in the hRLP group (81-89% and 100%) compared to controls (65% and 89%).
  • Median time to zero pad use was significantly faster for hRLP (39 days) versus controls (62 days), with a hazard ratio of 1.526.

Conclusions:

  • Local hypothermia during prostatectomy significantly improves early postoperative continence.
  • Deeper and longer cooling durations are associated with better continence outcomes, particularly in older patients.
