Abstract:
An experiment is reported that demonstrates the ability of the optical-time-domain reflector (OTDR) to locate and characterize small waveguide perturbations. Single microbends, as small as 10 microm in amplitude, were located and characterized. The experiment indicates a potential new application for the OTDR characterization of waveguide perturbations.
