Tunneling-radiating effect in elliptical fibers: an experimental verification
Abstract:
A near-field index-profile measurement technique is applied to check the presence of leaky tunneling rays in multimode nearly elliptical fibers. If the fiber is uniformly illuminated, the profiles turn out to be quite flat because the contribution to the near field of the leaky tunneling modes is practically negligible after a short fiber length owing to the tunneling-radiating effect that both whispering and bouncing modes undergo.
