Oscillations in superradiance with long-duration pumping pulses
Optics Letters
|August 28, 2009
Abstract:
We describe an experimental study of a new regime of superradiance characterized by relaxation oscillations, which is obtained in the case of long-duration pumping pulses. A qualitative interpretation of our results is given using the mean-field approximation in conjunction with broadband excitation. A more quantitative interpretation is also given, in which propagation effects are explicitely taken into account and the excitation is purely monochromatic.

NMR Spectrometers: Radiofrequency Pulses and Pulse Sequences
A pulse is a short burst of radio waves distributed over a range of frequencies that simultaneously excites all the nuclei in the sample. Upon passing a radio frequency pulse along the x-axis, the nuclei absorb energy corresponding to their Larmor frequencies and achieve resonance. This shifts the net magnetization vector from the z-axis toward the transverse plane. This angle of rotation of the magnetization vector, or the flip angle, is proportional to the duration and intensity of the pulse.
Double Resonance Techniques: Overview
Double resonance techniques in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy involve the simultaneous application of two different frequencies or radiofrequency pulses to manipulate and observe two distinct nuclear spins. One important application of double resonance is spin decoupling, which selectively suppresses coupling with one type of nucleus while observing the NMR signal from another nucleus, simplifying the spectrum and enhancing resolution.

Oscillations In An LC Circuit
An idealized LC circuit of zero resistance can oscillate without any source of emf by shifting the energy stored in the circuit between the electric and magnetic fields. In such an LC circuit, if the capacitor contains a charge q before the switch is closed, then all the energy of the circuit is initially stored in the electric field of the capacitor. This energy is given by
