Summary

The Technogym MyWellness Key accelerometer shows strong validity against the ActiGraph accelerometer for measuring physical activity (PA) in both lab and real-world settings. This device accurately tracks light to vigorous PA.

Background:

  • Objective and subjective measures are crucial for assessing physical activity (PA).
  • Wearable accelerometers offer a promising method for quantifying PA.
  • Validating new devices against established measures is essential for reliable data collection.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the concurrent validity of the Technogym MyWellness Key accelerometer.
  • To compare its performance against objective (ActiGraph GT1M, Yamax SW200 Digiwalker, Bouchard Activity cord) and subjective (Global Physical Activity Questionnaire) measures of PA.

Main Methods:

  • A randomized, cross-sectional study with laboratory and free-living phases.
  • Participants (n=16) underwent graded treadmill tests and wore devices for seven days.
  • Spearman rank-order correlation coefficients were used for data analysis.

Main Results:

  • The MyWellness Key demonstrated strong concurrent validity with the ActiGraph accelerometer (r=0.91 in lab, r=0.73-0.76 in free-living, p<0.01).
  • No significant associations were found between the MyWellness Key and the Bouchard Activity cord or GPAQ (p>0.05).

  • The Technogym MyWellness Key exhibits high concurrent validity with the ActiGraph accelerometer.
