    Measurement of Ultrafast Vibrational Coherences in Polyatomic Radical Cations with Strong-Field Adiabatic Ionization

  • Employed beta-BaB(2)O(4) crystals at room temperature.
  • Investigated tunable coherent ultraviolet generation using a fundamental dye laser.
  • Main Results:

    • Achieved a second-harmonic (SH) generation efficiency (eta) exceeding 10% at a SH wavelength (lambda(SH)) of approximately 206 nm.
    • Obtained a maximum SH generation efficiency of 36% with a fundamental dye-laser power of 150 kW.
    • Demonstrated that eta at lambda(SH) = 310 nm was 4-6 times greater than that in ammonium dihydrogen phosphate.

    Conclusions:

    • Beta-BaB(2)O(4) crystals enable efficient and tunable coherent ultraviolet generation.
    • The demonstrated SH generation efficiency is significant, particularly at shorter UV wavelengths.
    • Beta-BaB(2)O(4) offers superior performance compared to ammonium dihydrogen phosphate for specific UV generation applications.
