Abstract:
Using a mode-locked Nd:YAG laser with a pulse width of ~100 psec, we find that a broad temporal pulse undergoes a transition to a trainlike formation of subpulses when propagating through a dispersive and dissipative monomode optical fiber. This process does not require an additional optical seed pulse or noise from spontaneous emission.
