Space-variant operations using an optical parallel processor based on polarization encoding
Abstract:
Space-variant logic operations are carried out using an optical parallel processor that is based on polarization encoding and subsequent spatial separation of the encoded light. In this processor a liquid-crystal spatial light modulator is used as an operational kernel that allows a programmable space-variant operation to be performed on a real-time basis by spatially filtering the encodedlight pixel by pixel.

Vector Operations
A vector multiplied by a scalar value is called scalar multiplication. The result obtained is a new vector with a different magnitude. If the scalar is positive, the direction of the vector remains the same, but if it is negative, the direction of the vector is reversed. For example, the product of the mass and velocity yields the momentum.
