Morphometric analysis of AgNORs in the lymph node lesions

Quantitative analysis of silver-stained argyrophilic nucleolar organizer regions (AgNOR) in lymph nodes revealed significant differences. High-grade lymphomas showed higher AgNOR counts and areas compared to low-grade lymphomas and reactive lymph nodes.

- The mean ratio of single AgNOR dot area to nuclear area was lowest in high-grade lymphoma (0.0718 ± 0.01) compared to low-grade lymphoma (0.0826 ± 0.0096) and reactive lymph node (0.132 ± 0.01).
Conclusions:
- Morphometric evaluation of AgNOR features (count, total area, dot area, and ratios) demonstrates significant alterations across different lymph node lesions.
- These quantitative AgNOR parameters show potential as valuable tools for the differential diagnosis of challenging lymph node cases.
- AgNOR analysis offers objective insights into cellular changes, aiding in distinguishing reactive changes from malignant lymphomas.
