A new reconstructive procedure using intestinal pouch after pancreaticoduodenectomy with pancreaticogastrostomy

The present study describes a new reconstructive technique that can be performed after pancreaticoduodenectomy, modified Child's with intestinal pouch, and with pancreaticogastrostomy. This new reconstructive procedure was developed, and termed it "Oida's intestinal pouch reconstruction after modified Child's procedure and pancreaticogastrostomy" with the aim of obtaining a sufficient volume of the remnant stomach after antrectomy with pancreaticoduodenectomy in order to prevent delayed gastric emptying in cases wherein pylorus-preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy is contraindicated. We consider the presented reconstructive technique to be one of the most favorable procedures for preventing delayed gastric emptying in patients who have undergone pancreaticoduodenectomy with pancreaticogastrostomy because pylorus-preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy (PPPD) was contraindicated.
