Current management of acute coronary syndromes (ACS) in Australia has significant gaps between evidence-based guidelines and clinical practice.
These disparities impact patient outcomes, necessitating a coordinated national strategy.

Purpose of the Study:

To identify critical gaps in ACS management within Australia.
To develop priority strategies for improving ACS care delivery and patient outcomes.

Main Methods:

A national forum convened key stakeholders including the National Heart Foundation of Australia, Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand, and Australasian College for Emergency Medicine.
Consensus recommendations were formulated based on a review of current evidence and expert clinical opinion.

Main Results:

Recommendations include establishing protocols for prompt reperfusion in ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) via primary percutaneous coronary intervention or thrombolysis.
Improving risk stratification for non-ST-elevation ACS (NSTEACS) through integrated clinical pathways is crucial.
