Abstract:
In the context of a Bulletin Board associated with a large, renowned lesbian cultural event, the authors discuss the community formed through participation in a particular thread of the Politics Forum of the Bulletin Board. The boundaries of the community are defined by the 'proprietress' of Lesquire's Pub. There is a means of dealing with conflict; there are traditions and ongoing practices. The community is visible to all in text, available to anyone who wishes to read it. There is a 'real life' community as well, each year at the Michigan Womyn's Music Festival. The authors themselves represent some of the diversity of the participants in the community discussed, being of different ages, experience and nationalities. Lesquire's Pub is a cyber-community, nonetheless real and valuable for its existence in text on the Internet.
