Sexual stimulation can take various forms, such as physical touch and visual or auditory cues. When this happens, the parasympathetic reflex in the sacral portion of the spinal cord is activated. Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess the changes in orgasmic function (OF) over time.
  • To evaluate patients undergoing bilateral nerve-sparing radical retropubic prostatectomy (BNSRRP) for organ-confined prostate cancer (PCa).

Main Methods:

  • 334 preoperatively sexually active PCa patients were included.
  • Data collected included medical/sexual history, IIEF, and ICIQ-SF scores.
  • Follow-up questionnaires and interviews were conducted up to 48 months post-surgery.

Main Results:

  • Orgasmic function (OF) showed a significant increase throughout follow-up.
  • Higher erectile function (EF) scores were associated with improved OF.
  • Patient age and incontinence scores negatively correlated with OF.

Conclusions:

  • Orgasmic function (OF) significantly improves post-BNSRRP.
  • Erectile function (EF) is a key predictor of orgasmic function (OF) recovery.
