Area of Science:

  • Reproductive Medicine
  • Infertility Treatment

Background:

  • Artificial insemination with donor sperm (AID) is a common treatment for infertility.
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of AID and its impact on conception rates is crucial for patient counseling.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the cumulative pregnancy rates and effectiveness of artificial insemination with fresh donor semen (AID).
  • To assess the impact of donor changes and adjunctive therapies on AID success.

Main Methods:

  • Life-table analysis was used to evaluate cumulative pregnancy rates in 134 patients undergoing AID.
  • Data on insemination cycles, donor changes, and use of ovulation induction medications were collected.

Main Results:

  • A crude conception rate of 53.7% was observed, with 72 pregnancies in 134 patients.
  • Most pregnancies occurred by the seventh cycle, with an average of three inseminations per cycle.
  • Adjunctive treatments like clomiphene citrate, hMG, and hCG showed some success in conceiving patients.

Conclusions:

  • Life-table analysis is a reliable tool for assessing infertility treatment effectiveness.
  • Patients undergoing AID have conception chances similar to fertile couples if treatment is pursued persistently.
  • Donor selection and ovulation induction can influence AID success rates.
