Implantable left ventricular assist devices are expensive both in terms of the actual device cost and postoperative care. These devices have been successfully used in numerous life saving indications but their cost and cost efficacy remains unclear. This report reviews these issues focusing on device, in-hospital, and posthospitalization costs.
