Radioactive solution activity measurements using dose calibrators and a gamma spectrometer showed variations. However, results remained within the acceptable 10% uncertainty range per Brazilian regulations.
Area of Science:
- Nuclear medicine
- Radiochemistry
- Metrology
Background:
- Accurate measurement of radioactive solution activity is crucial for nuclear medicine applications.
- Variations in measurements can arise from different instrumentation and calibration methods.
Purpose of the Study:
- To compare the specific activity of radioactive solutions measured by dose calibrators and a high-purity germanium (HPGe) gamma spectrometer.
- To assess the agreement between different measurement techniques within established uncertainty limits.
Main Methods:
- Specific activity of (51)Cr, (67)Ga, (99m)Tc, and (201)Tl solutions was measured.
- Measurements were performed using multiple dose calibrators and a calibrated HPGe gamma spectrometer.
- The HPGe spectrometer was calibrated using standardized sources: (60)Co, (133)Ba, (152)Eu, (166m)Ho, and (241)Am.
Main Results:
- Observed differences in specific activity measurements between dose calibrators and the HPGe spectrometer.
- All measurement results were found to be within the 10% uncertainty range.
Conclusions:
- Despite measurement variations, the specific activity results are acceptable under Brazilian regulatory standards.
- The findings support the reliability of dose calibrators and HPGe spectrometry for routine nuclear medicine measurements within specified uncertainties.
