Summary

An anterior crossbite in a 9-year-old boy self-corrected within one year without intervention. This case highlights the potential for spontaneous resolution of anterior crossbites in children.

Background:

Anterior crossbite is a common malocclusion in children.
Treatment decisions are often influenced by dental development, such as open root apices.
The potential for self-correction is a key consideration in management.

Observation:

A 9-year-old Chinese boy presented with an untreated anterior crossbite.
Incisors exhibited open root apices, precluding immediate orthodontic intervention.
The anterior crossbite resolved spontaneously over a one-year observation period.

Findings:

The case demonstrated that an anterior crossbite can self-correct without any active treatment.
Spontaneous resolution occurred despite the initial presence of open root apices.
