[Problems of corticosteroid-induced adrenal insufficiency in surgery]

Patients previously treated with corticosteroids have a high risk whenever surgery is undertaken. Corticosteroid therapy, especially if prolonged, causes adrenal suppression. Therefore patients under steroid treatment need more, not less corticosteroids during the operative period.
