Summary

Flowable composites show comparable shear bond strength to orthodontic adhesives, making them suitable for direct bonding. While one adhesive had higher pullout resistance, flowables offer a viable alternative for lingual retainers.

  • SBS was measured after application to 15 human teeth enamel surfaces.
  • Pullout resistance was assessed by embedding a wire in 15 samples per material.
  • Main Results:

    • No statistically significant differences were found in shear bond strength (SBS) among the tested materials (P > .05).
    • Light Bond exhibited significantly higher pullout resistance than Filtek Supreme and FlowTain (P < .01).
    • No significant differences in pullout resistance were observed among flowables or between Light Bond and Tetric Flow.

    Conclusions:

    • The null hypothesis was rejected based on pullout resistance findings.
    • Flowable composites demonstrate satisfactory SBS and pullout values, comparable to standard orthodontic resins.
    • Flowable composites are a viable alternative for direct bonding of lingual retainers.
