Oscillations In An LC Circuit01:30

Oscillations In An LC Circuit

An idealized LC circuit of zero resistance can oscillate without any source of emf by shifting the energy stored in the circuit between the electric and magnetic fields. In such an LC circuit, if the capacitor contains a charge q before the switch is closed, then all the energy of the circuit is initially stored in the electric field of the capacitor. This energy is given by

    Area of Science:

    • Nonlinear optics
    • Laser physics
    • Photonics

    Background:

    • Continuous-wave optical parametric oscillators (OPOs) are crucial light sources.
    • Enhancing OPO efficiency and output power is an ongoing research goal.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To demonstrate a novel pump-enhanced singly resonant continuous-wave optical parametric oscillator (OPO).
    • To characterize the performance of this new OPO configuration.

    Main Methods:

    • Utilized lithium triborate (LBO) crystal cut for noncritical phase matching.
    • Employed a single-frequency argon-ion laser as the pump source.
    • Operated the device in a singly resonant configuration with enhanced pumping.

    Main Results:

    • Achieved an oscillation threshold of approximately 1.0 W at 514.5 nm.
    • Obtained 500 mW of single-frequency output power in the nonresonant wave for 3.4 W of pump power.
    • Demonstrated temperature tuning of the output over a 14 nm range.

    Conclusions:

    • The successful demonstration confirms the viability of pump-enhanced singly resonant CW OPOs.
    • This configuration offers a promising route for efficient, tunable, single-frequency light generation.
