Abstract:
The diagnosis of cancer is typically made on the basis of clinical and histological criteria. However, molecular biology research over the past three decades has revealed that diagnoses based on clinical presentation and pathology evaluation are not always accurate. With the advent of molecularly targeted drugs, a reclassification of cancers, based on their underlying genetic defects, is becoming increasingly urgent.
