Polarization cross saturation in an Er(3+)-doped fiber ring laser
Optics Letters
|October 29, 2009
Abstract:
The cross saturation between the polarization eigenmodes is measured in a unidirectional Er(3+) -doped fiber ring laser in which the population inversions for the polarization components are decoupled only by polarization hole burning. A coupling factor of beta = 0.80 +/- 0.01 is obtained from measurements of the polarization antiphase dynamics in the laser.

Polar Coordinates: Problem Solving
Directional radiation patterns are central to antenna analysis, as they illustrate how signal strength varies with direction. These patterns are often modeled using polar plots, where the radial distance from the origin represents signal intensity at a given angle. A commonly used idealized form is the four-lobed rose curve, which captures the concept of directional beams in a simplified mathematical form. The four-lobed rose curve, described by r = cos(2θ), features four symmetric lobes, each...
Dielectric Polarization in a Capacitor
The presence of a dielectric medium in a capacitor not only changes the voltage and capacitance but also affects the electric field. In general, dielectrics can be of two types: polar and nonpolar. In a polar dielectric, the positive and negative charges in the molecules are separated by a distance and hence have a permanent dipole moment. In contrast, no such charge separation exists in a nonpolar dielectric, however the nonpolar molecules get polarized in the presence of an external electric...
