Summary

Skull base chondrosarcoma can spread to the spine, even with good initial prognosis. Long-term monitoring with whole spine imaging is crucial for patients with intradural extension to detect these rare drop metastases.

  • A case of a 31-year-old female with grade 1 chondrosarcoma involving the skull base is presented.
  • The patient underwent multiple surgeries and proton beam radiotherapy over 12 years for tumor progression.
  • Seven years after initial treatment, she developed cervical radiculopathy due to multiple intradural extramedullary spinal drop metastases.

Findings:

  • Histological diagnosis confirmed a mixed hyaline/myxoid grade 1 chondrosarcoma.
  • The findings highlight the potential for late spinal dissemination in skull base chondrosarcoma, particularly after intradural surgery.
