Summary

A novel nematode, Trichosoma cutaneum, infects rhesus monkeys, causing skin lesions and nodules. This parasite exhibits near-perfect parasitism by laying eggs in the epidermis, facilitating host-to-host transmission.

  • This represents the first documented instance of a nematode species laying eggs within the epidermis.
  • The observed parasitism is considered ideal for nematode species continuation and transmission.
