THE TEMPERATURE CHARACTERISTIC FOR PHARYNGEAL BREATHING RHYTHM OF THE FROG
1Zoological Laboratory, Rutgers University, New Brunswick.
Abstract:
The frequency of the pharyngeal respiratory rhythm of frogs exhibits a critical thermal increment micro = 8,800 calories. At about 15 degrees irregularities are apparent, which may be reduced by continued adaptation to room conditions. The frequency depends upon a process possibly synaptic in locus and apparently belonging among the group of respiratory reactions. Its temperature characteristic sharply separates this process from those reactions known to be catalyzed by H ion.

Pharynx
Nasopharynx
The nasopharynx, bordered by the conchae of the nasal cavity, serves exclusively as an air conduit. In its superior region, the pharyngeal tonsils or adenoids are located. These tonsils are clusters of lymphoid reticular tissue akin to a lymph node. The precise...

Assessment of Ventilation II: Respiratory Depth and Rhythm
Respiratory depth measures the volume of air inhaled or exhaled during a breath. It can vary from shallow to deep and typically remains consistent when a person is at rest or asleep. Occasionally, individuals will automatically inhale deeply, known as sighing, which inflates the lungs with more air than normal breathing.
To assess respiratory depth, observe the degree of chest excursion or movement:
