Abstract:

The yeast yellow protein contains two prosthetic groups, one of which is undoubtedly a flavin. The nature of the other is unknown, though some of its properties are described. No catalytic function for this protein has as yet been found.

Yeasts are single-celled organisms, but unlike bacteria, they are eukaryotes (cells with a nucleus). Cell signaling in yeast is similar to signaling in other eukaryotic cells.
