Summary
Ectopic breast tissue can become cancerous. Early detection and surgical removal of ectopic breast tissue may improve prognosis for invasive ductal carcinoma, a type of breast cancer.

Background:
- Ectopic breast tissue, located outside the normal breast area, can undergo malignant transformation.
- Diagnosis of malignancy in ectopic breast tissue is often delayed, potentially worsening prognosis.
Observation:
- A 47-year-old woman presented with a swelling in the right axilla, initially diagnosed as ectopic breast tissue.
- An incisional biopsy confirmed a subcutaneous nodule within the ectopic breast tissue.
Findings:
- The mass was identified as invasive ductal carcinoma.
- Metastasis was detected in one axillary lymph node.
- The patient underwent chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and hormonal therapy.
Implications:
- Malignant transformation of ectopic breast tissue carries a worse prognosis and higher metastasis rates due to delayed diagnosis.
- Prophylactic excision of ectopic breast tissue may be a recommended preventative measure.
