The retina is a layer of nervous tissue at the back of the eye that transduces light into neural signals. This process, called phototransduction, is carried out by rod and cone photoreceptor cells in the back of the retina.

    Summary

    Neuroretinitis, an inflammatory eye condition, can mimic other serious diseases. Prompt diagnosis and treatment lead to remarkable recovery, highlighting the need for physician awareness.

    • Neuroretinitis is a rare condition often misdiagnosed.
    • It can be mistaken for papillitis, papilledema, hypertensive retinopathy, retinal vein occlusion, and anterior ischemic optic neuropathy.
