Summary

Quantitative reverse transcriptase PCR (RT-PCR) is not suitable for cervical cancer screening. Overexpressed biomarker transcripts, like p16(INK4a), are diluted in liquid-based cytology samples, hindering detection of transforming human papillomavirus (HPV) infections.
