Protein glycosylation starts in the ER lumen and continues in the Golgi apparatus. Glycosyltransferases catalyze the addition of sugar molecules or glycosylation of proteins. Summary

Serum mannose-binding lectin levels are similar in women with and without endometriosis. This suggests mannose-binding lectin may not play a direct role in the development of endometriosis, despite its role in inflammation.

Background:

Mannose-binding lectin (MBL) is a key component of the innate immune system.
Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory condition affecting women of reproductive age.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate the association between serum mannose-binding lectin concentrations and endometriosis.
To determine if MBL plays a role in the pathogenesis of endometriosis.

Main Methods:

Serum samples were collected from patients diagnosed with endometriosis and a control group without the condition.
Mannose-binding lectin concentrations were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).

Main Results:

No significant difference was observed in serum MBL levels between women with endometriosis and those without.
MBL levels did not correlate with the severity or stage of endometriosis.

Conclusions:

Serum mannose-binding lectin concentrations do not differ between patients with and without endometriosis.
MBL may not be directly involved in the pathogenesis of endometriosis, although it could modulate inflammatory responses.
