Appendicitis

Appendicitis is an acute inflammatory condition of the vermiform appendix, most commonly caused by obstruction of its lumen. The appendix is a narrow, blind-ended pouch that extends from the cecum, making it particularly prone to obstruction. Summary

This case study highlights a rare 13-week primary abdominal pregnancy diagnosed using ultrasound and MRI. Successful surgical removal of the placenta was achieved without complications.

  • The placenta was found attached to the sigmoid colon mesentery and abdominal wall.

  • Surgical management via laparotomy allowed for complete and safe placental dissection.
  • No postoperative complications were reported, indicating successful intervention.

Implications:

  • This case underscores the importance of advanced imaging in diagnosing complex pregnancies.
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can provide critical preoperative details for planning surgical management of abdominal pregnancies.
