Purpose of the Study:

  • Retrospective review of 168 hypospadias surgeries over 41 months.
  • Analysis of 20 salvage/re-operative repairs, including staged repairs with buccal mucosal grafts (BMGs) and onlay grafting.
  • Comparison of outcomes for different surgical techniques and internal urethrotomy.

  • Excellent results achieved in 50% of cases with well-formed penises and meatus.
  • Complications included glans closure failure, fistulae, and complete repair failures.
  • Staged repairs with BMGs showed promising outcomes, while internal urethrotomy had poor results.

Conclusions:

  • Staged repair with buccal mucosa inlay followed by tubularization yields good results in salvage hypospadias surgery.
  • A devised algorithm can guide corrective surgery planning for failed hypospadias cases.
