Summary

Shoulder pain in the dominant arm significantly impacts daily activities, as measured by the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (DASH) questionnaire and the Visual Analog Scale (VAS). Pain in the non-dominant arm showed no significant correlation with functional limitations.

  • Patients were grouped based on dominant (Group I) or non-dominant (Group II) arm involvement.
  • Evaluations included Visual Analog Scale (VAS) for pain, range of motion, and Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (DASH) questionnaire for functional status.

Main Results:

  • In Group I (dominant arm), DASH scores strongly correlated with VAS pain scores during activity (p<0.0001, r=0.625).
  • No significant correlation was found between DASH scores, VAS scores, or other parameters in Group II (non-dominant arm).

Conclusions:

  • Pain in the dominant shoulder during active movement is the primary factor impairing daily activities for patients with shoulder disease.
  • Targeting pain management in the dominant extremity is crucial for improving functional outcomes.
