Summary

Robotic partial cystectomy (RPC) using the da Vinci system is a feasible option for select bladder cancer patients. This initial study shows no short-term recurrence, but more research is needed.

  • RPC was successfully completed in all three male patients (median age 50) without open conversion.
  • Operative times ranged from 135-185 minutes, blood loss was minimal (20-25 mL), and hospital discharge was rapid (2-5 days).
  • Final pathology revealed high-grade papillary urothelial carcinoma or invasive adenocarcinoma; all patients were alive with no recurrence at a median 6-month follow-up, though one experienced a postoperative bowel obstruction.

Conclusions:

  • Robotic partial cystectomy (RPC) is technically feasible for select bladder cancer patients.
  • Short-term outcomes show no disease recurrence, supporting RPC's potential.
  • Larger studies with long-term follow-up are required to confirm these findings.
