Abstract:
A lens to be used in photographing the sun's corona in monochromatic light was developed from an existing Fraunhofer design. Measured performance of the constructed lens exceeded predictions. The original lens design was evaluated and modifications prescribed by machine analysis with the LASL program, which makes a statistical analysis of the traced skew rays that generate the geometrical image spots.
