Observation:

  • A 50-year-old woman presented with jaw pain and radiographic evidence of ill-defined soft tissue calcifications.
  • Calcifications were noted bilaterally over the maxilla, mandible, and zygomatic bones, with normal underlying bone.
  • Computed tomography (CT) confirmed the soft tissue calcifications.

Findings:

  • Initial differential diagnoses were broad, including dystrophic calcification or metastatic calcification.
  • Patient history revealed prior facial injections with a calcium hydroxylapatite-based dermal filler for cosmetic purposes.
  • The observed calcifications represented the injected CaHA material.

Implications:

  • The imaging appearance of CaHA fillers must be recognized by radiologists to prevent misdiagnosis.
