Summary

This study found insufficient evidence to support self-ligating orthodontic brackets over traditional ones. More high-quality research is needed to determine clinical differences and benefits for orthodontic treatment.

  • Meta-analysis showed no significant difference in subjective pain experience between bracket types.
  • Other outcomes could not be statistically analyzed due to study design limitations and heterogeneity.

Conclusions:

  • Current high-quality evidence is insufficient to favor self-ligating orthodontic appliances over conventional systems.
  • Further rigorous research is necessary to establish definitive clinical differences.
