Area of Science:

  • Urologic oncology
  • Pathology

Background:

  • Inflammatory pseudosarcoma of the bladder is a rare benign entity.
  • It presents a diagnostic challenge due to its potential to mimic malignant bladder tumors on imaging.
  • Definitive diagnosis relies solely on histopathological examination.

Observation:

  • Two cases of large inflammatory pseudosarcomas were observed in patients without prior bladder disease or trauma.
  • These tumors exhibited local tissue invasion.
  • One case demonstrated recurrence following incomplete transurethral resection.

Findings:

  • Radiologic examination alone is insufficient to differentiate inflammatory pseudosarcoma from malignant bladder neoplasms.
  • Pathologic examination is essential for accurate diagnosis.

Related Experiment Videos

  • The benign nature of inflammatory pseudosarcoma does not preclude aggressive local behavior or recurrence.
  • Implications:

    • Accurate preoperative diagnosis is crucial for appropriate management planning.
    • Complete surgical resection may be necessary to prevent recurrence.
    • Increased awareness among clinicians and radiologists may improve diagnostic accuracy for this rare condition.
