Extremely low-frequency electromagnetic fields (ELF EMF) affect female rat olfactory bulb estrogen receptor beta mRNA expression in a biphasic manner. Male rats and female estrogen receptor alpha mRNA expression showed no significant changes from ELF EMF exposure.

- ELF EMF can modulate ER beta gene expression in the olfactory bulb of adult female rats.
- ELF EMF does not appear to affect ER mRNA expression in the male rat olfactory bulb.
- The findings highlight sex-specific responses to ELF EMF in the OB related to estrogen receptor gene expression.
