Abstract:
Sports activities promote health and fitness for most participants, but for some, activity can complicate an illness or even be fatal. This article, the first of a two- part series on contraindications to activity, examines the cardiac, respiratory, and central nervous system conditions that warrant activity disqualification and provides guidelines about when it's safe for patients to participate.
