SIVagm containing the SHIV89.6P Envelope gene replicates poorly and is non-pathogenic

The simian immunodeficiency virus SIVagm env gene, when introduced into a chimeric virus, did not cause disease in monkeys. This suggests the HIV env gene may not be sufficient for acute pathogenicity in non-pathogenic primate lentiviruses.
