Summary

This study investigated dermatoglyphics in alcoholism, finding no etiological link despite genetic factors. Dermatoglyphic analysis did not differentiate alcoholic patients from healthy individuals.

  • Statistical evaluation using t-tests and Chi-square tests.

    • Statistically significant differences were observed in five examined dermatoglyphic variables.
    • No significant differences in fluctuating asymmetry were found between right and left hands, except for one variable.
    • Chi-square tests indicated no association between qualitative dermatoglyphic properties and alcoholism.

    Conclusions:

    • Despite the known genetic component of alcoholism, this study found no etiological connection via dermatoglyphics.
    • Dermatoglyphic analysis did not serve as a reliable indicator for discriminating alcoholic patients from healthy controls.
    • Further research may be needed to explore other genetic or biological markers for alcoholism.
