Summary

Rare jugular vein aneurysms can present as neck masses. Surgical resection is recommended for saccular aneurysms, unlike phlebectasias which are managed conservatively.

  • Jugular vein malformations, including aneurysms and phlebectasias, are uncommon vascular lesions.
  • Accurate classification and treatment guidelines for venous dilatation lesions remain challenging.

Observation:

  • A case of an adult patient presenting with a rapidly growing neck mass was diagnosed as a jugular vein aneurysm.
  • Initial clinical suspicion based on ultrasound suggested a lateral neck cyst.
  • Surgical exploration revealed a saccular aneurysm of the internal jugular vein.

Findings:

  • Histological examination of the aneurysm showed an organized hematoma within the sac.
  • The aneurysm wall exhibited focal thinning of the muscular layer.
  • The saccular aneurysm was found to be intimately connected with the internal jugular vein.
